A Message from Commissioner Stokes
DeKalb
Counts!
Dear Citizens,
The census counts every person living in the United States both citizens and non citizens. An accurate and complete count positions DeKalb County to get its fair share of the more than $400 billion of available funds to support vital local services.
As a former Georgia State Senator for 10 years, I am all too familiar with how the census affects resources and political representation among other things. District lines are drawn based on population counts. I’ve experienced the impact of the census on redistricting and apportionment.
As the chair for the DeKalb County Complete Count Committee, a campaign launched to ensure every DeKalb County resident is counted in the upcoming 2010 Census, I will work with committee members and the U.S. Census Bureau, county officials, and trusted voices in the community to educate the public and advocate on behalf of the 2010 census, and the citizens of DeKalb County.
